And so it is Friday and also March 1st. At last February is behind us, we are nearly out of the deep, dark wood and we really can start anticipating spring. But before we do here is my last contribution to Older Mum in a Muddle’s seasonal linky celebrating winter. I went off trawling the internet for images of winter and this is what I found.

Alegoriadelinvierno1948Alegoria del Invierno, Remedios Varo, 1948

Allegory of Winter. Spiky, barren and cold with all life and colour held in beautiful suspended animation. We are all just waiting for spring now.

I was so struck by the cold beauty of this image. Can you hear the still wintery silence? All sound muted under a blanket of snow. Freezing by the light of the moon. Look at the light. I know that I must sound ridiculous, as I suspect all art is about understanding light… or something.

Thanks Older Mum for hosting #OneWeek. It has (re)connected me with other bloggers at a time when most of us feel like hibernating. As ever it has sent me out in search of the new and has got my imagination going. You can quite see how I might have whiled away the long cold nights on Pinterest this winter can’t you? If I was into that kind of thing of course…

Wow. Loved both paintings – the first sums up winter very, very well, and the light in the second grabbed me by the boobies – just amazing! Thank you so much for joining in again, it’s been lovely – I always really enjoying this week, but it is tiring too! XXX

Ha! Grabbed your boobies?! My work here is done. Thanks for hosting. As always I enjoyed this link-up. It makes me think and search and inevitably I learn something. I love the other blogs too. Much love to you hon. x

Especially love that first one, it says it all!

It’s the second one for me. I love the weight of the snow on the trees, how they look lumpen and untreelike. There is a face in there as well that I see. Roll on spring.

Winter gets a raw deal. Like Vivaldi’s Four Seasons…winter is the best.

What a great idea to find images depicting the season and they both do it so well. I like the Varo best, the creatures seemed cocooned away from the cold. I’m now off to find you on Pintrest. x

These pictures are awesome, the first one looks like they are all suspended in ice crystals and the 2nd one is incredible, the more I look, the more I see. I can almost imagine crunching through that snow into the light and making another shadow. What a couple of great finds :)

Loved looking at your pictures. The end of winter can be pretty grim – that first picture really sums it up! I prefer the second one. Very still and rather spooky. Roll on spring now… x

Love the Moonlight in a Forest image. So spookily beautiful. I’m generally rubbish when it comes to art. I either like it or I don’t. Does that make me really shallow?
